History
The Red Star Line was a shipping line founded in 1871. It was a Belgian shipping company that operated a regular service between Antwerp and New York and sometimes between Antwerp and Philadelphia. The company belonged to the International Navigation Company (later the International Mercantile Marine Company), was founded in 1872, and in 1873 the first ship crossed the ocean. In 1935, the company went bankrupt as a result of the 1929 stock market crash.
